The kidneys are vital organs that filter toxins in the body and cleanse the blood. When the kidneys shut down or can no longer function properly, dialysis takes over this function. A dialysis machine is connected to the patient’s bloodstream and acts as an artificial kidney.

We provide options for Hemodialysis:

1. Hemodialysis – This is a more common type of dialysis. With hemodialysis, a patient usually goes to a dialysis center three times a week, where he or she is connected to an artificial kidney that cleanses the blood.

What is Dialysis Access Surgery?

Dialysis access surgery or vascular access surgery is performed before dialysis, enabling effective treatment of End Stage Renal Disease.

At Pinehurst Surgical Clinic, our Vascular Surgeons provide several types of access surgery options for both forms of dialysis. Arteriovenous (AV) fistula  or arteriovenous grafts are typically used for hemodialysis. Shorter term Hemodialysis catheters, called Tunneled Dialysis catheters, or Perm Caths can also be inserted while patients are evaluated for a more permanent access. Maintenance of dialysis access includes the Fistulagrams and declots.
