Pinehurst Surgical Clinic Imaging Center is ACR (American College of Radiology) Accredited in CT and offers CT scans for Pinehurst Surgical Patients.

Pinehurst Surgical Clinic skilled physicians and X-ray technologists are trained to deliver computed tomography and computed tomography angiography scans to their patients.  These tests may be used to help locate and diagnose a variety of problems in the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine and lower extremities.

What is a CT scan?

CT imaging also known as “CAT Scanning” (Computerized Axial Tomography) provides a different form of imaging known as cross-sectional imaging or “slices” of anatomy, like slices in a loaf of bread. The cross-sectional images are used for a variety of diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.

What is a CTA scan?

CTA stands for computed tomography angiography. A CTA scan gives a view of specific blood vessels (arteries and veins). CTA is often included in addition to a CT scan.

How do I prepare for a CT or CTA?

The following general guidelines will provide you with useful information and tips as you prepare for your test:

• What Happens before the test?
• Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled exam time to register.
• Fill out pertinent CT Screening Forms.
• You will be asked to arrive 1 hr. prior to your scheduled exam if you require lab work which has not been performed within 6 weeks of your scheduled appointment.
• If your have Diabetes ask your doctor about taking your routine medicine as you may be asked to take a liquid preparation for your digestive system before you come to the Imaging Center.

What to Bring

• Insurance forms, referrals or both
• List of your medicines, including any special instructions, over-the-counter drugs and herbal drugs
• List of allergies to food, latex or medicine

Precautions

Tell your doctor or technologist if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a contrast enhancing agent, iodine or shellfish or if you have asthma. CT and CTA scanning can expose you to some radiation. If you are pregnant or think you might be, or if you are breastfeeding, tell your Pinehurst physician and technologist before your test.

How do I get my test results?

A radiologist will study your scans and report the results to your doctor. Your doctor will discuss the results with you. Talk with a staff member at our imaging center or your physician in Troy, Hamlet, Rockingham, Sanford, NC or any of our other Pinehurst Surgical locations about how to get your test results.

How will I be billed?

You will receive two bills following your CT/CTA exam:

• One from Pinehurst Surgical Clinic
• One from the radiologist that reads your test
• Please be prepared to pay your co-pay, deductible or expected out-of-pocket expense at the time of service
